Job Description

A New York-based law firm is seeking an HR Generalist to join its dynamic HR team. This person will focus approximately 60% on benefits (including leave, disability, and compliance) and 40% on recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding.

Salary: $100–120K base

Hours: 8:30am – 5:30pm

Schedule: The role is on-site five days per week

Responsibilities:

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment for staff roles, including posting, screening, coordinating interviews, and offers
  • Lead onboarding and offboarding processes, including new hire orientation and exit interviews
  • Oversee benefits administration, open enrollment, claims, and vendor relationships
  • Act as the primary point of contact for benefits-related inquiries
  • Maintain HR systems and generate reports; ensure accurate records, billing, and compliance
  • Assist with E-Verify, I-9 records, and various employment-related forms
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and firm policies; assist with audits and reporting
  • Serve as a resource for employees on HR policies and employee relations
  • Support performance management, annual reviews, and documentation
  • Participate in special projects and process improvement initiatives
  • Opportunity to assist with the selection and implementation of a new ATS

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of HR experience, ideally in a professional services or legal setting
  • Bachelor’s degree required; HR certification (PHR, SHRM-CP) a plus
  • Strong knowledge of benefits, compliance, and general HR best practices
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Exceptional communication, discretion, and organizational skills
  • Self-starter who enjoys taking initiative and creating opportunities
