Job Description
A leading healthcare facility in Houston, TX is currently seeking a Director of Nursing to oversee its Labor and Delivery department. This leadership role is ideal for a seasoned nursing professional with a strong background in perinatal care and a passion for excellence in clinical operations and patient experience.
Department Overview:
- 12 Labor & Delivery suites
- 5 Operating Rooms dedicated to obstetric procedures
- 4 Antepartum beds for high-risk pregnancy care
- 36 Postpartum and NICU beds supporting maternal and neonatal recovery
Position Summary:
The Director of Nursing will be responsible for strategic and operational leadership of the Labor and Delivery unit. This includes oversight of staffing, clinical standards, patient safety, and performance improvement initiatives. The role requires close collaboration with physicians, administrative leaders, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Direct daily operations and long-term planning for the Labor and Delivery unit
- Ensure compliance with all hospital policies, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Lead initiatives to improve patient outcomes, staff engagement, and overall performance
- Manage budgets, staffing models, and resource allocation effectively
- Mentor and develop nursing staff to support professional growth and retention
Qualifications:
- Active RN license in the state of Texas (or compact state eligibility)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive nursing leadership experience in maternal-child health
- Strong clinical background in labor and delivery, antepartum, postpartum, and neonatal care
- Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing teams and implement quality improvement strategies
