Job Title: Superintendent – Big-Box Retail Construction
Industry: Commercial Construction – Retail (Big-Box, Grocery, Chain Stores)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Superintendent to oversee the construction of large-scale retail and big-box projects in the Cleveland area. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial retail construction, excellent leadership skills, and a track record of delivering complex projects safely, on time, and within budget.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day field operations on retail construction projects ranging from $5M to $40M+
- Supervise all on-site subcontractors, suppliers, and trades to ensure adherence to schedule, safety protocols, and quality standards
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and clients to resolve field issues and maintain project momentum
- Conduct daily site walkthroughs, safety meetings, and progress reports
- Maintain accurate project documentation including RFIs, daily logs, and field reports
- Ensure strict compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies
- Communicate proactively with clients, inspectors, and vendors throughout all phases of construction
- Manage project schedules using tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6
- Lead quality assurance efforts and final punch list completion
Qualifications:
- 7+ years of superintendent experience in commercial construction, with a focus on big-box or retail projects
- Proven success managing fast-paced construction schedules and multi-trade coordination
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, site logistics, and safety planning
- Experience working on ground-up and/or major renovations of national retail chains (e.g., Walmart, Target, Home Depot, grocery stores)
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Proficiency with Procore, Microsoft Office Suite, and scheduling software
- OSHA 30 certification required
- Willingness to travel occasionally if project needs require
