Position Title: Registered Nurse (RN)
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct nursing care as prescribed by the physician or Nurse Practitioner, in compliance with recognized nursing standards and State and Federal regulations. This role involves using the nursing process to make continuous assessments of clients' total health needs, performing nursing assessments through direct physical examination, and developing and implementing individualized nursing care plans.
Essential Job Duties
- Provide direct nursing care as prescribed by the physician/Nurse Practitioner.
- Use the nursing process to make continuous assessments of clients' total health needs.
- Perform nursing assessments through direct physical examination.
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans, updating them at least annually or when there is a significant change in the client's condition.
- Coordinate all acute and ongoing health services as needed and as mandated by regulations.
- Monitor health and behavioral status, labs, and the efficacy of prescribed treatments, ensuring timely communication of findings to appropriate clinical personnel.
- Ensure that all medical record documentation is accurate, timely, outcome-based, and reflected in the nursing notes.
- Provide health education to clients and their support systems.
- Provide initial and ongoing training to staff in all nursing tasks, functions, and protective and preventive health measures, at least annually.
- Provide training and ongoing support to staff regarding medication administration, infection control, and other appropriate areas.
- In conjunction with the Director of Nursing, interview and determine the candidacy of other RN and LPN applicants.
- Supervise, discipline, and schedule LPN staff hours.
- Maintain documentation of all training curriculums, attendance, and post-training testing.
- Work with electronic health record management, electronic care coordination, and electronic health record interfaces with external service providers.
- Actively participate in the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).
- Be available on call.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Educational/Training Requirements
- Active, unrestricted New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
Experience Required/Preferred
- Managerial experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to work independently and possess sound independent judgment and decision-making skills.
Computer Skills Required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Visual and Manual Dexterity
- Ability to read documents for analytical purposes such as health charts and spreadsheets.
- Manual dexterity necessary for handling medical equipment, administering medications, and performing clinical procedures.
