Pharmacy Technician – Oncology Practice (Full-Time)
This Pharmacy Technician position supports a busy outpatient oncology clinic, focusing on the accurate and safe preparation, dispensing, and handling of chemotherapy and specialty medications. Working alongside physicians, nurses, and clinical staff, the Pharmacy Technician ensures seamless medication management, including sterile compounding, inventory oversight, and compliance with safety protocols. The role requires strong attention to detail, a deep understanding of pharmaceuticals, and a commitment to patient safety in a high-acuity environment. Oncology experience is strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare daily IV admixtures and cytotoxic agents, including chemo preparations and syringes
- Perform two-person dose verifications, proper labeling, and safe handling of hazardous medications
- Process and dispense oral oncology medications according to provider orders
- Monitor and manage inventory, reconcile stock using the Lynx medication system, and resolve discrepancies
- Maintain a sterile and compliant medication preparation area following infection control protocols
- Dispose of hazardous waste in accordance with safety regulations
- Collaborate with nursing and provider teams to support continuity of care
- Adhere to all organizational, state, and federal pharmacy regulations
- Assist with related duties to ensure smooth clinical operations
Required Qualifications:
- Active California Pharmacy Technician license
- At least 4 years of specialty pharmacy experience, including IV admixture and sterile compounding
- Familiarity with both brand and generic drug names and dosages
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Proficiency with pharmacy systems and EMRs
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Experience:
- Prior experience in oncology or infusion center settings
- Knowledge of Mosaic, Epic, Lynx, or McKesson Order Center systems
- Multilingual abilities are a plus
