Overview

  • Serve as a Family Peer Specialist, providing support and advocacy to families navigating complex service systems.
  • Work in a hybrid environment with a flexible schedule including remote and in-person days.
  • Assist families in setting priorities, achieving goals, and connecting with community resources.
  • Engage in meaningful advocacy to ensure families receive necessary services and support.
  • Participate in training and certification programs to enhance professional skills.
  • Collaborate with professionals to provide comprehensive support to families.
  • Contribute to the improvement of family support services through lived experiences.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in all interactions.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Provide emotional and practical support to families, sharing personal experiences and insights.
  • Advocate for families within service systems to access resources and services.
  • Educate families about their rights and available resources.
  • Support families in setting goals and achieving desired outcomes.
  • Connect families to community resources, support groups, and services.
  • Collaborate with social workers, therapists, and case managers for comprehensive support.
  • Participate in system improvement initiatives based on lived experiences.
  • Complete required training and certification programs to enhance skills.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Credentialed Family Peer Advocate (FPA-C) preferred.
  • Personal experience as a caregiver of a child with social, emotional, or behavioral challenges.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with families and professionals.
  • Empathy, compassion, and advocacy skills to support families effectively.
  • Organizational skills to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Cultural competency and understanding of diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in computer usage and relevant software applications.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Bengali, Mandarin, or Cantonese preferred.
