Job Description

Overview

  • Lead surgical services operations with 24-hour accountability for quality care and nursing practices.
  • Oversee Operating Rooms at multiple locations, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and standards.
  • Provide clinical direction and evaluate nursing staff performance and patient care quality.
  • Develop and implement unit-based quality improvement activities and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with physicians, patients, families, and other departments to enhance communication and satisfaction.
  • Participate in budget planning and demonstrate fiscal responsibility in decision-making processes.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and legal requirements pertinent to the unit operations.
  • Engage in clinical and leadership development of staff, evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Serve on hospital and departmental committees to contribute to organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop and evaluate nursing department philosophy, objectives, policies, and protocols.
  • Hire, discipline, and appraise performance of direct reports, ensuring effective team management.
  • Delegate authority and accountability for clinical nursing practices and patient care decisions.
  • Monitor unit-based budgets and table of organization, ensuring efficient resource allocation.
  • Plan and implement quality and performance improvement activities at the unit level.
  • Maintain effective communication mechanisms within the unit and across departments.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards, governmental regulations, and hospital policies.
  • Provide clinical expertise and guidance to nursing staff, fostering professional development.
  • Participate in hospital and departmental committees, contributing to organizational initiatives.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Registered Professional Nurse licensed in New York State.
  • Minimum of three years of leadership experience in Operating Room management.
  • Demonstrated competence as a nursing practitioner with 3-5 years of clinical experience.
  • Strong knowledge of nursing processes, quality improvement, and fiscal management.
  • Ability to develop and implement nursing standards and protocols effectively.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills to manage staff and collaborate across departments.
  • Commitment to patient care excellence and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Availability for on-call responsibilities to address operational issues.
