Job Description

Overview

  • Develop and optimize mechanical systems for cutting-edge unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in a dynamic, hybrid work environment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to advance airframe designs, payload systems, and launch/recovery mechanisms.
  • Utilize advanced CAD tools for structural and thermal analysis, ensuring peak system performance and reliability.
  • Engage in hands-on prototyping, fabrication, and testing to bring innovative concepts to life.
  • Participate in field operations, including system testing, demonstrations, and mission support activities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and maintain meticulous documentation of operational procedures.
  • Travel occasionally to support field testing and operational deployments as required.
  • Work in diverse environments, including office, laboratory, and outdoor field settings.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Design, develop, and test mechanical components and systems for UAS platforms, ensuring optimal functionality and durability.
  • Integrate propulsion, power, telemetry, and payload systems into cohesive, high-performance UAS designs.
  • Conduct failure analysis and implement robust solutions to enhance system reliability and safety.
  • Perform structural and thermal simulations using CAD software to validate and refine designs.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to achieve project milestones and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Support mission planning, site surveys, and risk assessments for field operations and testing.
  • Maintain detailed records of flight operations, maintenance activities, and system performance metrics.
  • Operate UAS platforms during field missions, ensuring compliance with airworthiness standards and safety protocols.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in UAS mechanical systems design, assembly, and testing.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks or Fusion 360 is essential.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, fabrication techniques, and advanced manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of UAS propulsion systems, aerodynamics, and mechanical subsystems is highly desirable.
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate or willingness to obtain is required.
  • Experience with autopilot systems and aerospace materials selection is advantageous.
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
