Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Conduct comprehensive quality reviews for inpatient and outpatient coding to ensure adherence to established guidelines.
- Utilize expert knowledge of medical coding to enhance accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Lead and participate in special projects focused on improving coding practices and data integrity.
- Maintain productivity and accuracy standards, consistently exceeding organizational benchmarks.
- Collaborate with Health Information Management Service Centers to facilitate coding reviews and improvements.
- Develop and deliver educational sessions to ensure coding knowledge remains current and relevant.
- Review and interpret official data quality standards and clinical resources to maintain coding excellence.
- Mentor and support coding staff in achieving compliance and quality benchmarks effectively.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Health Information Management or related field is preferred.
- RHIA, RHIT certification and/or mandatory IP Coding Auditor for MS-DRG is required.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on coding experience in MS-DRG auditing.
- Proficiency in coding for all body systems; specialization is not required.
- Strong knowledge of coding guidelines, policies, and clinical resources.
- Ability to consistently meet productivity and accuracy standards exceeding 95%.
- Experience in hospital coding and auditing environments is preferred.
- Successful completion of a coding test as part of the selection process.
