Overview
- Perform echocardiogram procedures to assess cardiac structures and hemodynamics independently and in accordance with professional standards.
- Educate patients on procedures, equipment, and exam expectations to ensure understanding and cooperation.
- Select and utilize transducers and imaging parameters to differentiate normal and abnormal cardiac structures.
- Administer contrast media and medications within the scope of practice when indicated.
- Monitor patient conditions and report changes in status promptly.
- Implement safety standards and perform quality control procedures on imaging equipment.
- Analyze imaging results, identify issues, and ensure diagnostic quality.
- Transmit and report scan results accurately and efficiently.
- Work in a fast-paced environment requiring critical thinking and decisive judgment.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Review patient history and physician orders to prepare for echocardiography procedures.
- Educate patients about the procedure, ensuring their understanding and cooperation.
- Perform echocardiography procedures independently, selecting appropriate equipment and parameters.
- Administer contrast media and medications as required within the scope of practice.
- Monitor patient conditions during procedures and report any changes promptly.
- Implement and maintain safety standards, ensuring quality control of imaging equipment.
- Analyze imaging results for diagnostic quality and identify any issues.
- Accurately enter, transmit, and report scan results to relevant stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment malfunctions effectively.
Job Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Cardiac Sonography program, Associate’s degree in allied health, or Bachelor’s degree in any area.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification required.
- BLS certification through the American Heart Association or Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in cardiac sonography; 2 years preferred.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in using echocardiography equipment and analyzing imaging results.
- Strong communication skills to educate patients and collaborate with healthcare teams.
- Commitment to maintaining safety standards and quality control procedures.
