Job Description

Overview

  • Provide expert inpatient coding services, ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Perform detailed audits to verify coding accuracy and optimize reimbursement processes.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to refine coding policies and procedures effectively.
  • Analyze health data to identify trends and enhance coding practices.
  • Adapt to industry changes to maintain compliance and improve operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to educational programs promoting coding accuracy and compliance.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives through precise coding practices.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Accurately code diagnoses and procedures in inpatient medical records using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS systems.
  • Conduct audits to identify discrepancies and ensure compliance with coding regulations.
  • Monitor updates to coding standards and implement changes in practices accordingly.
  • Collaborate with departments to validate data and ensure accurate reporting.
  • Develop statistical reports to support compliance and quality assurance initiatives.
  • Assist in policy development aimed at enhancing coding quality and operational efficiency.
  • Provide training and guidance to staff on coding practices and documentation standards.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree required; Associate's degree considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of inpatient coding experience essential.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required.
  • Proficiency with encoder and EMR systems preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of coding compliance standards and denials management advantageous.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
  • Expertise in ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems essential.
