Overview
- Serve as a vital link between medical services and residents, ensuring comprehensive nursing care and compliance with regulations.
- Provide direct nursing care, assessments, and individualized plans for residents with developmental disabilities.
- Supervise and train staff in nursing tasks, protective health measures, and medication administration.
- Monitor health status, labs, and treatment efficacy, ensuring timely communication with clinical personnel.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation to reflect outcomes and nursing notes.
- Participate actively in interdisciplinary team meetings and quality improvement projects.
- Utilize electronic health record systems for care coordination and interface with external providers.
- Provide patient-centered care, ensuring confidentiality, emotional support, and mutual respect.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Conduct physical examinations and develop individualized nursing care plans for residents.
- Coordinate acute and ongoing health services, ensuring adherence to regulatory mandates.
- Train staff in health and hygiene practices, communicable disease control, and seizure management.
- Evaluate clinical performance of direct support staff in medication administration and diabetic care.
- Ensure training documentation and post-training testing are accurately maintained.
- Monitor residents’ health and behavioral status, ensuring timely updates to clinical personnel.
- Participate in agency quality improvement initiatives to enhance client outcomes.
- Provide ongoing support to staff regarding nursing tasks and client-specific health issues.
Job Requirements
- Active, unrestricted New York State Registered Nurse license required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) and minimum three years of clinical experience preferred.
- Experience with intellectually disabled populations and managerial roles preferred.
- Proficiency in electronic health record systems and care coordination.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills essential.
- Ability to work independently and make sound judgments.
- Strong team collaboration and interpersonal skills required.
- Knowledge of OPWDD regulations and agency policies preferred.
