Job Description

Overview

  • Assist healthcare providers with clinical services and administrative tasks to ensure optimal patient care and support population health initiatives.
  • Work under the supervision of the Practice Administrator and collaborate with the Nurse Manager in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Engage with patients and guests to provide exceptional customer service and address concerns effectively.
  • Perform patient registration, scheduling, and insurance verification using electronic systems to maintain data integrity.
  • Support care teams in direct patient care, including vital signs, phlebotomy, and diagnostic testing.
  • Coordinate referrals, appointments, and follow-ups with external specialists and affiliated laboratories.
  • Adhere to confidentiality protocols and demonstrate professionalism in all interactions.
  • Contribute to a cooperative and supportive work environment, fostering teamwork and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Greet patients and guests warmly, ensuring a positive experience and timely communication regarding wait times and services.
  • Monitor patient flow and proactively resolve issues related to registration, check-in, and check-out processes.
  • Answer telephones professionally, utilizing excellent customer service skills and adhering to standard protocols.
  • Schedule appointments accurately, verify insurance coverage, and manage patient demographic and financial information.
  • Assist care teams with patient outreach initiatives, such as health surveys and closing care gaps.
  • Perform direct patient care tasks, including physical examination preparation, diagnostic testing, and specimen collection.
  • Coordinate referrals and appointments with external specialists, ensuring patients receive necessary care and follow-ups.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure seamless care delivery.

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred for advanced qualifications.
  • Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant Program or eligibility for national certification exam required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory care setting required; 3 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in navigating electronic medical records (EMR) systems and maintaining accurate patient data.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and ability to recognize patient status data.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with a cooperative and tactful approach to patient and team interactions.
  • Flexibility to adapt to varying work assignments and schedules within the healthcare facility.
