Ophthalmic Technician

Overview

• Assist ophthalmologists in delivering exceptional patient care and clinical services in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
• Perform specialized ophthalmic tests and procedures to support accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plans.
• Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of ophthalmic instruments and equipment for optimal performance.
• Educate patients on ocular health, treatment plans, and post-procedure care.
• Accurately transcribe physician notes into electronic medical records, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards.
• Monitor inventory levels and ensure availability of essential supplies and medications.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to streamline clinic workflows and enhance patient care.
• Stay updated on advancements in ophthalmic technology and procedures to improve service quality.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

• Conduct patient history intake and document findings in electronic medical records accurately.
• Perform visual acuity tests, color vision assessments, and other ophthalmic evaluations.
• Assist physicians during in-office procedures and patient consultations, ensuring smooth operations.
• Respond to patient inquiries and provide guidance in collaboration with ophthalmologists.
• Maintain cleanliness and sterility of ophthalmic instruments and workspaces.
• Order lenses and other ophthalmic supplies based on prescriptions and clinic needs.
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations in patient record management and clinic operations.
• Educate patients on ocular health, treatment options, and preventive care strategies.

Job Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is required; formal ophthalmic training is preferred.
• Current JCAHPO certification as COA, COT, or CMOT preferred; required within 12 months of hire.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in ophthalmic clinical settings is essential.
• Proficiency in using electronic medical record systems and ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.
• Knowledge of basic anatomy, medical terminology, and ophthalmic procedures is advantageous.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in clinical documentation.
• Ability to effectively educate patients on ocular health and care practices.
• Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to healthcare regulations.
