Job Description

Payroll Specialist Overview

  • The Payroll Specialist will oversee and manage multi-state payroll operations, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and policies.
  • Provide expertise in Workday payroll system implementation, administration, and continuous improvement for efficient payroll processing.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to optimize payroll workflows and enhance system efficiency.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure payroll accuracy and recommend improvements to internal controls.
  • Support leadership with payroll metrics, analysis, and forecasting insights to inform strategic decisions.
  • Assist with year-end payroll processes, including W-2 preparation and taxable benefits reporting.
  • Develop and maintain payroll documentation and compliance guidelines to ensure adherence to standards.
  • Ensure timely resolution of payroll-related inquiries and issues, maintaining a high level of service.

Payroll Specialist Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage payroll processing cycles, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable laws.
  • Validate payroll data, including deductions, garnishments, and adjustments, to maintain accuracy.
  • Monitor legislative changes to maintain compliance with payroll regulations and adapt processes accordingly.
  • Audit payroll reports and tax filings for accuracy and adherence to regulations.
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams on payroll-related projects and initiatives to drive efficiency.
  • Lead efforts to streamline payroll processes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Address payroll-related inquiries and coordinate with external auditors as needed.
  • Effectively manage system administration tasks for payroll and HRIS platforms.

Payroll Specialist Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll experience, including multi-state payroll expertise.
  • Proficiency in Workday payroll systems and experience with system implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance standards.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines effectively.
