Tax Accountant Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Prepare and review individual tax returns (Forms 1040) and fiduciary tax returns (Forms 1041).
- Ensure compliance with year-end reporting by preparing and filing 1099s.
- Analyze client financial data to ensure accurate reporting and compliance.
- Perform bookkeeping tasks, including bank reconciliations and general ledger cleanup.
- Assist in monthly and quarterly close processes for small business clients.
- Prepare compiled financial statements, ensuring proper documentation and formatting.
- Coordinate with senior accountants and managers to address tax and accounting matters.
- Communicate effectively with clients to request documentation and resolve discrepancies.
Tax Accountant Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in public accounting or tax preparation; 8 years preferred.
- Proficiency in tax software such as UltraTax or ProSystem fx and accounting software like QuickBooks.
- Strong expertise in preparing 1040 and 1041 tax returns and 1099 reporting requirements.
- Working knowledge of bookkeeping and general ledger accounting practices.
- Exposure to financial statement compilations is preferred but not required.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with clients and team members.
