Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Overview

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments and physical examinations for neonatal patients to determine appropriate care plans.
  • Diagnose and manage neonatal diseases and conditions using advanced clinical knowledge and skills.
  • Prescribe medications, therapies, and specialty consultations tailored to individual patient needs.
  • Collaborate closely with neonatologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
  • Document patient diagnoses, treatment plans, and progress accurately and comprehensively in medical records.
  • Provide education and emotional support to families, ensuring they understand and are comfortable with care plans.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies, clinical guidelines, and regulatory standards in all care activities.

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Job Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing degree with advanced neonatal care education preferred.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Texas.
  • National certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Basic Life Support certifications are mandatory.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical experience in neonatal care, with strong knowledge of neonatal disease processes.
  • Ability to work effectively within interdisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality patient care.
