Medical Assistant Overview

  • The Medical Assistant serves as a vital member of the healthcare team, assisting providers with clinical services and administrative tasks to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Collaborates with healthcare professionals to deliver population health-focused care, guided by best practices and a commitment to excellence.
  • Works under the supervision of the Practice Administrator and Nurse Manager to support patient treatment and care initiatives.
  • Engages patients warmly, ensuring their needs are met while maintaining a professional and compassionate demeanor.
  • Handles administrative tasks such as scheduling, insurance verification, and patient registration to streamline operations.
  • Assists in direct patient care activities, including vital signs collection, phlebotomy, and diagnostic testing preparation.
  • Utilizes electronic medical records systems effectively to document patient care and manage data integrity.
  • Demonstrates professionalism and adherence to confidentiality standards, contributing to a supportive team environment.

Medical Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Warmly greet patients and guests, ensuring effective communication and timely assistance throughout their visit.
  • Monitor patient flow and proactively resolve issues related to registration, check-in, and check-out processes.
  • Schedule patient appointments accurately, verify insurance coverage, and manage referral coordination.
  • Assist care teams with initiatives such as health outcome surveys and closing gaps in care.
  • Perform direct patient care tasks under supervision, including vital signs, diagnostic tests, and specimen collection.
  • Document patient care information in electronic medical records, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure coordinated care.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and initiative in completing assignments and supporting team objectives.

Medical Assistant Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred for enhanced qualifications.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or eligibility to sit for certification exam within 18 months of hire required.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory care setting required; 3 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in navigating electronic medical records systems essential for effective documentation.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and ability to recognize patient status data.
  • Demonstrated customer service excellence and ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations.
  • Flexibility to work onsite during varying hours, Monday through Friday, between 8 AM and 6 PM.
