Welcome back to #WeAreGreenKey, where we shine a spotlight on our powerhouse recruiting team.

Recently, we had the opportunity to meet with Sacha Rupall, Director of the Professional Services team at Green Key. Sacha is a seasoned professional with nearly a decade of experience, which she has used to support the development of new areas within the Professional Services division. She has also leveraged her extensive expertise to continually attract and secure top talent for our clients.

How did you get started in recruiting?

I’ve always been drawn to HR, inspired by my love for my Human Resources class at GW. After college, I returned to New York and was contacted by Green Key for an HR role. While in their office, I chatted with a recruiter who saw me fit for an internal position. I shifted gears, interviewed for this new role, and began as a researcher handling various recruiting aspects, including onboarding, background checks, I-9 verifications, candidate scheduling, phone communication, and resume editing. Through this, I familiarized myself with the industries Green Key served. Roughly a year later, I advanced to the position of recruiter, taking on full desk responsibilities.

What do you find the most rewarding about your work?

I’m passionate about Recruiting/Human Resources because it provides insights into all industries within your area. For me, that’s New York. I loved finding a career that allowed me to understand how NYC worked as a city. This enhanced my networking capabilities, allowing me to assist people more effectively in finding their ideal job. It’s also incredibly rewarding to hear from candidates who are grateful for the help I provided at the start of their careers. I also take pride in the growth I’ve achieved in my career, advancing from a Research Analyst to a Director.

How have you been able to help the division expand to better serve our clients and candidates?

I left Green Key for about two years to see how the other side of things work. I worked in internal Talent Acquisition/HR management and employee relations and had the opportunity to understand different HR related conversations. This experience and the connections it offered eventually allowed me to more effectively assist candidates and our permanent HR function, as I now have a comprehensive understanding of that domain and can engage in clearer, expert-level discussions with candidates.

What sets Green Key apart from other recruiting firms?

Our teams have always hired incredible people who are driven, personable, and enjoyable to work with. Many of my closest post-grad friends are from Green Key. What sets Green Key apart from many other agencies is that they don’t solely focus on KPIs. While KPIs are important and receive our attention, Green Key genuinely cares about each person’s personal and professional growth, as well as the experience of both candidates and clients.

What keeps you coming back to this business every day?

The wins! There are ups and downs, but that’s true for every job. What keeps me coming back are the small and big wins, like getting off a call with a great candidate or receiving an interview request and having the perfect candidate in mind and making a placement. These victories provide an almost instant sense of gratitude.

Do you and your team have any goals for the rest of the year?

We have a team of highly skilled recruiters who excel at what they do. Our goal is to continue our current efforts, turning many of the current job openings into placements. We also aim to showcase our excellent work in permanent job placements and attract more clients, proving that working with Green Key will cut down your onboarding and recruiting costs.

The Disadvantages of AI-Generated CVs

In today’s digital age, artificial intelligence (AI) has revolutionized many aspects of our lives, including the job application process. AI-generated CVs are becoming increasingly popular due to their convenience and efficiency. However, there are several disadvantages to relying solely on AI for creating your CV.

According to Futurism.com, “Without proper editing, the language will be clunky and generic, and hiring managers can detect this,” Victoria McLean, CEO of career consultancy company CityCV, told FT. “CVs need to show the candidate’s personality, their passions, their story, and that is something AI simply can’t do.”

Here are some key points to consider:

Lack of Personalization

AI-generated CVs often lack the personal touch that can make a candidate stand out. These CVs tend to follow a generic template, which may not effectively highlight an individual’s unique skills, experiences, and personality. Employers appreciate CVs that reflect the candidate’s personal brand and creativity, something AI might struggle to capture.

Inaccuracies and Errors

While AI can process large amounts of data quickly, it is not infallible. AI-generated CVs can sometimes contain inaccuracies or errors, such as incorrect job titles, dates, or even mismatched skills. These mistakes can be detrimental to a candidate’s chances, as they may be perceived as careless or unprofessional.

Overemphasis on Keywords

AI systems often prioritize keywords to match CVs with job descriptions. This can lead to an overemphasis on including specific terms, sometimes at the expense of a coherent and compelling narrative. Candidates might feel pressured to “game the system” by stuffing their CVs with keywords, which can result in a document that feels forced and unnatural.

Limited Customization

AI-generated CVs may not offer the flexibility needed to tailor applications for different job roles. Customizing a CV for each job application is crucial to demonstrate how one’s skills and experiences align with the specific requirements of the position. AI tools might not provide the level of customization needed to make a strong impression on potential employers.

Potential Bias

AI algorithms are only as unbiased as the data they are trained on. If the training data contains biases, these can be reflected in the AI-generated CVs. This can inadvertently perpetuate existing biases in hiring practices, potentially disadvantaging certain groups of candidates.

Lack of Human Insight

Human recruiters often look for qualities that go beyond what is written on a CV, such as cultural fit, enthusiasm, and potential for growth. AI-generated CVs may not effectively convey these intangible qualities, which can be crucial in the hiring decision-making process.

While AI-generated CVs offer convenience and speed, they come with several disadvantages that can impact a candidate’s job prospects. It’s important to strike a balance between leveraging AI tools and maintaining a personal touch in your CV. By being aware of these potential pitfalls, job seekers can make more informed decisions about how to present themselves to potential employers.
