Job Description

Summary:

Seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our non-profit organization. The ideal candidate will be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with over 5 years of experience in financial management, preferably within the non-profit sector. The Controller will be responsible for overseeing all financial activities, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the organization’s mission through sound financial practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management:
    • Oversee all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
    • Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
    • Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements.
    • Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting.
  • Compliance and Audit:
    • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
    • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
    • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
  • Internal Controls:
    • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
    • Implement and oversee financial controls to safeguard the organization’s assets.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Manage and mentor the accounting team.
    • Provide training to new and existing staff as needed.
  • Strategic Planning:
    • Support the CFO in engaging the board’s audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery.
    • Assist in the development and implementation of strategic business plans and initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
