Job Description
Title: Government Affairs Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, analyze, and influence federal legislation affecting healthcare policy and urology practice.
- Lobby members of Congress and staff, educating them on the organization’s positions and legislative priorities.
- Establish and maintain relationships with key congressional offices, committees, and coalitions to advance advocacy efforts.
- Serve as staff liaison to the Legislative Affairs Committee (LAC), providing legislative tracking, analysis, and policy recommendations.
- Oversee the Holtgrewe Legislative Fellowship program, managing the application process, budget, and placement of fellows in congressional offices.
- Support work groups such as the Urology Workforce Task Force, monitoring the impact of legislation on provider shortages.
- Represent the organization at coalition meetings (e.g., Alliance of Specialty Medicine, AMA, ACS) and provide updates to leadership.
- Draft and disseminate policy reports, advocacy materials, and legislative alerts for leadership and members.
- Assist in the organization and execution of advocacy events, such as the Annual Urology Advocacy Summit and AUAPAC initiatives.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, healthcare administration, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in government relations, legislative affairs, or policy analysis.
- Capitol Hill experience strongly preferred but not required.
- Experience with campaign finance law, PAC management, or nonprofit advocacy is a plus.
Skills & Abilities:
- Deep knowledge of federal legislative and regulatory processes, particularly in healthcare policy.
- Strong ability to analyze legislation, develop advocacy strategies, and engage with policymakers.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft memos, white papers, and advocacy materials.
- Experience working with membership-based organizations or physician-led committees.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships with policymakers, industry stakeholders, and coalition partners.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and membership database management.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
- Flexible work hours as needed for advocacy events and legislative meetings.
