Job Description
Responsibilities:
General Ledger & Financial Systems:
- Maintain and regularly review the firm's chart of general ledger accounts, ensuring alignment with financial reporting and operational standards.
- Utilize financial systems such as PowerBI, Elite 3E, AFS, and Excel to manage data, generate reports, and support decision-making processes.
Payroll & Attorney Compensation:
- Prepare and upload accurate and timely payroll general journal entries (GJE) each pay period.
- Produce and analyze quarterly commission reports for partners, counsel, and associates.
Financial Reporting:
- Create and distribute monthly financial reporting packages for the Executive Committee, including key financial summaries and firmwide insights.
- Prepare comprehensive monthly and quarterly firm financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Generate and distribute open accounts receivable reports to attorneys and leadership, providing context and follow-up actions as needed.
- Monitor and report on missing time entries, coordinating with department heads and HR to ensure compliance.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the annual firm budgeting process, coordinating input from department heads and senior leadership.
- Maintain and distribute quarterly budget performance reports to department stakeholders, highlighting key variances and trends.
Profitability & Practice Group Reporting:
- Conduct detailed client and matter-level profitability and realization analysis, identifying areas for improvement and strategic focus.
- Develop and deliver practice group reporting, including revenue, utilization, margin, and growth analysis to practice leaders.
Executive & Strategic Support:
- Collaborate with the CFO, Managing Partner, and Executive Committee to create executive-level presentations, reports, and financial dashboards.
- Support ad hoc analysis and reporting needs tied to firm strategy, attorney performance, and operational planning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA, MBA, or equivalent strongly preferred.
- 7-10 years of financial analysis experience, ideally in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Strong familiarity with law firm financial structures, including partner compensation, billing realization, and matter profitability.
- Advanced skills in Excel, and experience with, Power BI, Elite 3E, or similar financial systems.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with senior leadership.
- High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all deliverables.
