Job Description

Overview

  • Lead the Central Sterile Processing department, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality standards in a dynamic healthcare environment.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Perioperative Services to align departmental goals with organizational objectives.
  • Promote continuous quality improvement and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
  • Supervise a team of 80 staff members, including 7 team leads, across various service lines.
  • Oversee staff recruitment, training, and development to ensure competency and excellence.
  • Support inpatient and outpatient ambulatory clinics with sterile processing services.
  • Utilize SPM Workflow for departmental operations and ensure its effective implementation.
  • Engage in hospital and community events to promote the organization and its services.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize sterile processing operations and enhance service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with aseptic techniques, infection control protocols, and operating room instrumentation standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure seamless integration and coordination of services.
  • Monitor and assess departmental performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to team leads and staff, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Manage resources effectively, recommending necessary investments to support departmental operations.
  • Conduct orientation and ongoing education programs for staff to maintain high competency levels.
  • Participate in hospital-wide initiatives to enhance patient care and operational efficiency.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Nursing, or a related field; Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST).
  • IAHCSMM certification and minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in Central Sterile Processing.
  • Strong knowledge of operating room instrumentation, aseptic techniques, and infection control practices.
  • Proficiency in computer operations and familiarity with SPM Workflow systems.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and technical skills, with attention to detail and ability to perform under pressure.
  • Experience managing larger teams in acute care settings; metrics-based performance evaluation preferred.
  • Ability to support diverse service lines, including Endo, OR, CVOR, and L&D.
