Overview
- Provide advanced medical care in a hospital setting, specializing in cardiothoracic procedures and patient management.
- Collaborate with surgeons and medical teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes during surgical interventions.
- Perform diagnostic evaluations, therapeutic measures, and critical decision-making in inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Support the development of a new open-heart surgery program within the hospital.
- Maintain medical staff privileges under the scope of practice defined by the hospital system.
- Work in a high-priority, trauma-level II environment with flexible shifts.
- Engage in leadership and mentorship roles within the PA team and associated medical staff.
- Utilize advanced clinical skills to perform vessel harvesting and assist in cardiothoracic surgeries.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Assist in cardiothoracic surgeries, including vessel harvesting and first-assist roles in the operating room.
- Conduct patient evaluations, order diagnostics, and prescribe medications as necessary.
- Provide comprehensive inpatient care, ensuring adherence to medical protocols and standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Participate in the orientation and training of new Physician Assistants within the department.
- Maintain accurate patient records using Epic software and other hospital systems.
- Ensure compliance with infection control standards and hospital policies.
- Engage in continuous professional development to stay updated on advancements in cardiothoracic care.
Job Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant program; Master's degree preferred.
- Current NYS Physician Assistant licensure and unrestricted DEA certification.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
- Completion of NYS Mandated Infection Control Course Certificate.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications for assigned practice areas.
- Proficiency in Epic software and basic Microsoft Office applications.
- Minimum two years of experience in cardiothoracic surgery; five years preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in vessel harvesting and surgical first-assist roles.
