Job Description

Overview

  • Coordinate infection prevention and control activities within a healthcare setting, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and hospital policies.
  • Perform patient rounds and environmental assessments to identify and mitigate infection risks effectively.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to investigate outbreaks and exposures, implementing corrective measures promptly.
  • Educate staff, patients, and families on infection prevention policies and best practices to promote safety.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives related to infection control and hospital benchmarking efforts.
  • Utilize analytical skills to perform surveillance activities and report communicable diseases to health authorities.
  • Assist in implementing performance improvement projects and infection prevention strategies effectively.
  • Ensure adherence to accreditation standards and regulatory requirements in infection control practices.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Conduct daily patient rounds and environmental assessments to monitor infection control practices.
  • Collaborate with infection prevention staff to perform surveillance and reporting activities.
  • Investigate and manage infection exposures and outbreaks within the healthcare facility.
  • Educate healthcare personnel on infection prevention policies and procedures.
  • Advise on matters related to infection prevention and control for hospital departments.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and infection prevention projects effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements in infection control.
  • Utilize computer skills for statistical analysis and rate calculations related to infection control.
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration with healthcare teams and external authorities.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or related healthcare field required.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) required; must pass exam within 12 months if in process.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in infection control; 2 years preferred.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for infection prevention activities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to educate and collaborate effectively.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including statistical analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to manage projects and implement performance improvement initiatives.
  • Physical ability to perform clerical and administrative tasks in a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of accreditation standards and regulatory requirements for infection control.
