Nurse Director Maternal Child Health Overview

  • The Nurse Director Maternal Child Health oversees operations in Labor & Delivery, Triage, Antepartum, OR, and PACU departments.
  • Responsible for strategic planning, regulatory compliance, and maintaining high standards of patient care.
  • Leads personnel management, including hiring, evaluations, and staff development initiatives.
  • Develops and implements departmental goals, policies, and performance improvement strategies.
  • Ensures financial accountability by managing budgets and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Promotes a collaborative work environment and effective communication among healthcare teams.
  • Supports educational programs and professional development for nursing staff.
  • Maintains compliance with all accrediting and licensing requirements for assigned departments.
  • Reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

Nurse Director Maternal Child Health Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Formulate and assess operational plans, including care models and staff allocation.
  • Oversee recruitment, training, and performance evaluations for departmental staff.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring financial efficiency and accountability.

Nurse Director Maternal Child Health Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in labor and delivery nursing; 7 years preferred.
  • Current California Registered Nurse license and specialty certifications (BLS, ACLS, NRP, AWHONN).
  • Proven leadership experience, including roles such as charge nurse or manager.
  • Strong knowledge of labor and delivery practices, regulatory standards, and patient care protocols.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, staffing plans, and departmental operations effectively.
