Paralegal Overview

  • The Paralegal role offers an opportunity to support legal operations in a dynamic, client-focused environment.
  • Assist attorneys in filing notices of appeal and securing appellate counsel assignments.
  • Engage in drafting and filing motions, and managing case documentation.
  • Collaborate with clients and legal professionals to ensure efficient case handling.
  • Utilize advanced organizational and communication skills to meet deadlines effectively.
  • Contribute to advocacy efforts for underserved communities and individuals.
  • Work onsite in a supportive and professional legal setting.
  • Leverage technical proficiency in Microsoft Word and PDF programs for document preparation.

Paralegal Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Review case dispositions and coordinate with attorneys for appeal notices.
  • Draft and file legal documents, including motions and notices of appeal.
  • Track case progress and update the case management system.
  • Communicate with clients regarding case updates and attorney assignments.
  • Organize and manage court records and transcripts.
  • Prepare cases for closing and ensure all documentation is complete.
  • Collaborate with courts and criminal justice agencies for case coordination.
  • Adapt to evolving practice needs and contribute to team efforts.

Paralegal Job Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher, or paralegal certificate from an ABA-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of paralegal experience, with strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and PDF programs for document management.
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Experience in advocacy for underserved communities is highly valued.
  • Knowledge of New York criminal law and procedures is preferred.
  • Multilingual proficiency is a strong advantage.
