Surgical Services Nurse Manager Overview

  • The Surgical Services Nurse Manager oversees clinical operations and patient care within the Main Operating Room.
  • Lead a team of healthcare professionals to ensure quality outcomes and efficient unit operations.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other stakeholders to promote effective communication and satisfaction.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and foster a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance perioperative services and patient care delivery.
  • Analyze operational metrics to optimize department productivity and efficiency.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to staff, promoting professional growth and development.
  • Support staffing and surgical volume expectations to meet organizational goals.
  • Work closely with facility partners to ensure seamless collaboration and resource management.

Surgical Services Nurse Manager Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Manage all aspects of the Main Operating Room, ensuring smooth operations and quality care delivery.
  • Perform personnel tasks, including hiring, counseling, promoting, and disciplining staff as needed.
  • Conduct performance reviews and set clear role expectations for OR personnel.
  • Analyze department metrics to identify areas for improvement and enhance efficiency.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with facility partners and regulatory agencies.
  • Ensure compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements, including The Joint Commission.
  • Support staffing and surgical volume expectations to meet organizational goals.
  • Promote participative behaviors and consensus-building among the OR team.
  • Provide on-call support for emergencies, ensuring timely response and resolution.

Surgical Services Nurse Manager Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution required.
  • Current Registered Nurse licensure in Colorado or active multistate RN license.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in a supervisory or management role in perioperative services.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of perioperative services and acute care operations.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with attention to detail and organization.
  • Experience in hiring, mentoring, and evaluating healthcare personnel effectively.
  • Ability to work independently and resolve issues with tact and assertiveness.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Preferred experience in surgery centers or acute care settings.
