Medical Assistant Overview

  • The Medical Assistant serves as a vital member of the care team, assisting providers with clinical services and administrative tasks to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Collaborates with the Practice Administrator and Nurse Manager to support population health initiatives and deliver guided best-in-class care.
  • Engages patients warmly, demonstrating customer service excellence and effective communication to address their needs throughout the care process.
  • Ensures accurate patient registration, scheduling, and insurance verification using advanced electronic systems.
  • Supports clinical campaigns and initiatives, including outreach to at-risk patients to improve health outcomes and reduce unnecessary admissions.
  • Performs direct patient care functions under supervision, including vital signs, phlebotomy, and diagnostic screenings.
  • Maintains professionalism, punctuality, and adherence to confidentiality standards in all interactions and responsibilities.
  • Demonstrates proficiency with electronic medical records and practice management systems within three months of training.

Medical Assistant Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Warmly greet patients and guests, effectively communicating wait times and addressing concerns promptly.
  • Manage patient registration, check-in, and check-out processes, ensuring data integrity and timely service.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage, and coordinating referrals to specialists.
  • Perform direct patient care tasks, including vital signs, diagnostic screenings, and specimen collection.
  • Support clinical initiatives such as vaccination programs and health outcome surveys.
  • Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members to ensure seamless care delivery.
  • Document patient care information accurately in electronic medical records and ensure timely follow-up.
  • Participate in outreach efforts to engage at-risk patients and improve care accessibility.

Medical Assistant Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate degree preferred.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or eligibility for national certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Minimum one year of experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory care setting required; three years preferred.
  • Proficiency in navigating electronic medical records and practice management systems.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and ability to perform age-specific patient care functions.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours between 8 AM and 6 PM daily.
