Job Description

Title: Nonclinical Research Scientist

Position Summary

  • We seek a highly motivated senior/principal research associate or scientist with expertise in histological and molecular techniques to support the advancement of pre-clinical research programs investigating therapeutics for rare diseases. You will contribute to the experimental strategy, execution, and analysis of in vitro and in vivo assays to answer scientific questions that inform program decisions. You will also play a key role as an active member of cross-functional teams that are developing novel therapeutics for rare diseases.

Responsibilities

  • Process tissue samples and perform routine and specialized histological staining techniques; analyze histological samples using image analysis.
  • Develop and implement novel histological and molecular assays to increase disease biology understanding and determine therapeutic efficacy across multiple gene therapy programs.
  • Maintain mammalian cell culture; design and perform cell-based assays to assess therapeutic response to drug candidates.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to drive innovation in a scientifically stimulating, patient-focused research environment.
  • Expand upon scientific knowledge and contribute innovative ideas to product development.
  • Analyze, interpret, document and present research data to cross-functional teams. Communicate research progress during team and departmental meetings.

Requirements

  • BS or MS with 5+ years of experience, or PhD with 0-2 years of experience in academic or industry setting.
  • Strong experience with mammalian tissue processing, including fixation, embedding, and sectioning (FFPE and frozen).
  • Strong experience performing histological assays including Immunofluorescence, Immunohistochemistry, and specialized tissue-specific stains. Experience with fluorescent in situ hybridization a plus.
  • Proficient in microscopy (brightfield, fluorescence) and image analysis. Experience with image analysis platforms like Indica HALO a plus.
  • Mammalian cell culture experience, including plasmid transfections and viral transductions.
  • Experience with cell-based and molecular biology assays such as, but not limited to qPCR/ddPCR/dPCR, Western blotting, Immunocytochemistry and ELISA.
  • Experience in data analysis including GraphPad Prism.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively on cross-functional teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented with good problem-solving ability.
