Job Description
SUMMARY:
The CT Technologist performs computed tomography (CT) procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses CT technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. *Performs all types of CT studies to include diagnostic and interventional procedures; practices radiation safety for patients, staff, and self.
3. *Uses sterile technique as required.
4. *Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors.
5. *Performs venipuncture.
6. *Competently operates all CT equipment and support systems to include HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, teleradiography, performs and evaluates images for technical quality.
7. *Utilizes department computer systems, PACS, etc., to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
8. *Properly cares for and imaging patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.
9. *Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to assure quality patient care.
10. *Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
11. *Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required.
12. *Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies coordinator of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
13. *Keeps work area properly supplied.
14. Advances work knowledge by participating in continuing education in-services, reading periodicals/literature and seeking ongoing development opportunities; attends departmental, educational and hospital committee meetings as required.
15. Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.
16. Assists in the future planning of the CT department.
17. *Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
18. Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of CT positioning, use of technical factors and radiation safety practices.
2. Knowledge of CT non-invasive and invasive procedures.
3. Knowledge of Joint Commission, federal and state regulations related to radiography.
4. Knowledge of computer hardware and software applications relevant to work functions.
5. Skill in operating CT equipment, PACS, and other related systems.
6. Ability to react appropriately and perform work effectively under stressful and emergent situations.
7. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
8. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.
9. Ability to interact effectively with patients, family, staff, and physicians.
10. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
11. Ability to care for diverse patients throughout the age continuum.
12. Ability to exercise courtesy and professionalism in the work environment.
13. Ability to practice proper body mechanics to ensure personal and patient safety.
14. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patients and families in accordance with HIPPA regulations and hospital procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduate from a school of radiologic technology with current certification or eligibility for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists required. Certification in CT required within 24 months of hire. Valid state medical radiographer license required.
OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required.
