Job Description
Responsibilities/Job Duties:
- Record a patient’s medical history accurately
- Take and record measurements of blood pressure, temperature, heart rate, etc.
- Observe patients under treatment to identify progress, side-effects of medications, etc.
- Monitor patients’ conditions including fluid intake and output and compose patient charts
- Assist ailing patients in daily necessary activities such as eating, bathing, etc.
- Administer injections, prescribed medications, enemas, etc., clean and dress wounds, and assist with other basic medical
- care tasks
- Collect samples for lab testing as assigned
- Provide emotional and psychological support when needed
- Communicate with patients’ family or friends to provide advice, comfort, and release instructions
Position Requirements
- Licenses/Certifications:
- WY or compact RN license required
- CPR/BLS – American Heart Association
- ACLS – American Heart Association
- PALS or ENPC – required
- Skills:
- Proficient treating ICU and Tele patients
- Proficient treating ventilated patients, post cardiac cath lab, IABP, sepsis, COPD, post op, trauma
- Proficient with Tele, ability to read EKG (required)
- Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience
Position Description
- General Job Duties:
- Care for all ages of patients
- 11 beds in ICU and Tele
- Ability to care for ventilated patients, post cardiac cath, IABP, sepsis, COPD, post op surgical, trauma, limited neuro, DKA patients
- Equipment Utilized:
- Meditec charting
- Bedside verification for med administration
- Vent, Bipap, Swan, Phillips monitors, IV pumps, Transvenous pacers, etc.
- Required Skills and Experience:
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience
- Tele experience, ability to read EKG
- Care for patients as stated in #1, occasional peds patients such as RSV, DKA
- Licensures and Certifications:
- WY or compact nursing license required
- BLS, ACLS, PALS or ENPC (will assist with peds but not take primary responsibility)
- Shift/Schedule Requirements:
- 12-hour shifts, negotiable (rotating, straight, etc.)
- Call not required but may be asked occasionally
- Support Staff:
- 11 beds in department
- Support staff: CPS, Lab, Rad, 24-hour coverage Hospitalists, eICU support
- Nurse to Patient Ratio:
- Generally 2 or 3 patients per nurse
- Dress Code:
- Navy scrubs
- Training and Orientation:
- 3 shifts of orientation with ICU RN on the floor
- No classroom orientation
