Job Description

Title: Pension Assistant II

Key Responsibilities

  • Process pension benefit calculations in accordance with plan rules, regulations, and merger agreements.
  • Recalculate pension benefits as needed due to additional service credit updates.
  • Manage pension application denials and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret and apply ERISA, DOL, and IRS regulations related to pension benefits.
  • Research and resolve pension-related discrepancies in coordination with compliance teams.
  • Handle inquiries and resolve issues for participants, beneficiaries, trustees, and employers.
  • Prepare reports for trustee meetings and assist with software implementation.
  • Monitor and maintain pension benefit application data.
  • Provide administrative support for special projects as assigned by leadership.
  • Assist with clerical functions as needed to support fund operations.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s degree with coursework in business administration, advanced math, or a related field, plus 2+ years of experience in pension administration.
  • OR High school diploma/GED, 1 year of college coursework, and 3+ years of pension administration experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of ERISA, DOL, and IRS pension regulations.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex pension plan language and merger agreements.
  • High level of accuracy in performing pension benefit calculations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word at an intermediate level).
  • Experience with accounting, database, or pension fund software is a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment.
