Job Description

Title: Compliance Specialist

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct risk assessments for subawards, reviewing audits, tax returns, corporate documentation, policies, and financial procedures.
  • Evaluate grant disbursement requests, ensuring alignment with award agreements and verifying expense eligibility.
  • Support subrecipient monitoring by coordinating audits, gathering required documentation, and assisting with reporting.
  • Track monthly compliance reports, escalating subawards that fail to meet compliance benchmarks.
  • Work with program staff to resolve compliance issues, applying sound judgment and escalating concerns when necessary.
  • Assist in process improvement initiatives to strengthen internal controls and reduce non-compliance risks.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Compliance on refining policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Perform additional compliance-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, nonprofit management, or a related field preferred.
  • 2-4 years of experience in grants management, federal compliance, or award administration.
  • Experience with Uniform Guidance requirements and federal cost principles preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of federal compliance regulations for grants and subawards.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities independently and apply critical thinking skills to compliance challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with professionalism in handling compliance matters.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex compliance concepts into actionable insights.
  • Proficiency in Office365 (Excel, Word, etc.); familiarity with Salesforce, Workday, SharePoint, or LogicGate is a plus.
