Job Description

Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO)

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight to nursing departments
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality patient care and adherence to regulatory standards
  • Collaborate with senior leadership, department managers, and frontline staff
  • Enhance clinical outcomes and promote a culture of excellence
  • Drive nursing initiatives aligned with hospital mission and strategic goals
  • Lead workforce development and recruitment efforts
  • Oversee financial stewardship across nursing departments
  • Enhance patient experience metrics and satisfaction scores
  • Foster innovation and continuous improvement within nursing services
  • Report directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO)

Requirements

Licensure and Certification:

  • Current California RN license
  • Leadership certification preferred (CNML, NE-BC, or NEA-BC)

Education:

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN), Healthcare Administration (MHA), or Business Administration (MBA)

Experience:

  • 7–10 years of progressive nursing leadership experience
  • Previous role as Nurse Director, Administrative Director, or similar position
  • Strong knowledge of hospital operations and patient care management
  • Experience with budget management and quality improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrated regulatory compliance expertise (The Joint Commission, CMS)

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proven ability to drive nursing excellence and implement change initiatives
  • Financial acumen for budget planning and resource allocation
  • Strong understanding of accreditation and regulatory standards
  • Exceptional communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Advanced problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and data analytics systems
