Cardiovascular Clinical Nurse Specialist

Position Overview

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) for this Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) will serve as a clinical expert, educator, consultant, and leader in cardiovascular nursing care. The CNS will help advance the cardiovascular program toward heart transplant center designation while ensuring exceptional patient outcomes and clinical excellence.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish and monitor cardiovascular care standards for complex, high-risk cardiac patients
  • Develop evidence-based protocols and clinical pathways for CVICU patient populations
  • Design and implement education programs to ensure staff competency in advanced cardiac care
  • Serve as clinical consultant to physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Provide direct clinical expertise and care for complex cardiovascular patients
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and monitor patient outcomes
  • Support the development of our heart transplant program through clinical expertise and protocol development
  • Participate in research activities and implement evidence-based practice changes
  • Collaborate with leadership to define and implement best nursing practices in cardiovascular care

Requirements

  1. Current California Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) certification
  2. Demonstrated experience training staff and facilitating nursing orientation programs
  3. Minimum 3 years of CVICU experience in a hospital setting
  4. Current California RN license and BLS certification
