Job Description
Senior Underwriter
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and assess life and health insurance applications to determine risk levels and appropriate coverage.
- Analyze medical, financial, and occupational information to make informed underwriting decisions.
- Collaborate with agents, brokers, and other stakeholders to gather necessary information and clarify underwriting requirements.
- Develop and implement underwriting guidelines, policies, and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Review and approve policy changes, renewals, and endorsements.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior underwriters and support staff.
- Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to maintain a competitive edge.
- Participate in special projects and initiatives to improve underwriting processes and enhance customer experience.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of underwriting experience in life and health insurance.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in underwriting software and tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Professional designations such as CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) or FLMI (Fellow, Life Management Institute) are a plus
