Job Description

An organization focused on civil rights is seeking an experienced litigator to join their team. The ideal candidate will have at least 15 years of federal and state litigation experience, including handling complex and class action cases. This role involves managing a legal department, overseeing litigation, and leading a team of legal professionals.

Compensation: $190K-200K, depending on experience

Hybrid Schedule: 2 days in office, 3 days remote

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate the organization's litigation docket across various areas of focus.
  • Identify and develop new litigation matters based on organizational priorities.
  • Maintain an active litigation docket and serve as lead counsel in select cases.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with allied civil rights organizations and serve as co-counsel on cases.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to the legal department, ensuring staff receive professional development opportunities.
  • Manage team performance and facilitate constructive performance evaluations.
  • Serve as a public spokesperson for the organization, working with media to raise public profile.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as advocacy and communications, on strategic initiatives.
  • Contribute to the organization's Senior Leadership Team in advancing its mission.

Qualifications:

  • J.D. degree required.
  • Admission to the relevant state Bar(s).
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in federal and state litigation, including complex and class action cases.
  • At least 6 years of experience supervising and managing legal professionals.
  • Proven commitment to civil rights and advancing social justice.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization publicly.
  • High emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage relationships effectively.
  • Detail-oriented, able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Proven ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure.
  • Experience collaborating with diverse communities.
  • Fluency in Spanish and ability to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking clients is highly preferred.
