Job Description
Title: Managing Clerk
Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of litigation docketing and calendaring across jurisdictions
- Supervise and support docket staff, assigning tasks and reviewing quality and timeliness of work
- Advise attorneys on procedural rules, filing deadlines, and litigation strategies
- Maintain awareness of court updates and communicate procedural changes firmwide
- Oversee electronic filings in state, federal, and bankruptcy courts
- Coordinate filing, service, and retrieval of court documents directly and through outside vendors
- Prepare and distribute daily litigation calendars and reports
- Draft basic legal filings such as notices, stipulations, and affidavits of service
- Conduct research using PACER, CourtLink, Westlaw, Practical Law, and other legal platforms
- Coordinate training for junior staff and evaluate team performance
- Liaise with court personnel, legal vendors, and external process servers
- Maintain e-filing credentials database for firm attorneys
- Lead department initiatives and implement procedural improvements
Requirements:
- JD or bachelor’s degree required; minimum of 10 years' experience in a docketing or court services role within a law firm
- Advanced knowledge of the FRCP, CPLR, and local court rules across multiple jurisdictions
- Strong proficiency with Compulaw, CourtAlert, PACER, Etrack, and CourtLink
- Demonstrated ability to calculate and manage complex litigation deadlines
- Excellent communication, organizational, and supervisory skills
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing demands in a fast-paced environment
- Experience managing hybrid and onsite legal support teams
