Job Description
An established 300-bed hospital in Southern California is seeking a dedicated and experienced Nurse Manager to lead its 35-bed Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This position oversees 24/7 operations, guiding a skilled team of over 80 FTEs to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to some of the region’s most vulnerable patients. The Nurse Manager will report directly to the Director of Women, Infants, and Children’s Services and work in close collaboration with the NICU Medical Director to support clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and team development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct supervision to clinical and ancillary NICU staff, including Clinical Managers and Resource Nurses
- Oversee day-to-day operations, including scheduling, productivity management, staffing acuity, and Kronos functions
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including TJC, Title 22, CDPH, and CCS
- Conduct family rounding post-admission and follow up on service recovery issues
- Support onboarding, annual evaluations, file audits, licensure tracking, and disciplinary actions
- Collaborate on capital equipment planning, supply chain oversight, and budget adherence
- Participate in or lead staff meetings, Neonatal Operations Committee, and hospital-wide initiatives
- Monitor and report performance improvement trends; develop action plans and present findings to staff
- Provide bedside support and respond to emergencies when needed
Required Qualifications:
- Current California RN license
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (in progress may be considered with defined completion date)
- Minimum 5 years NICU nursing experience, including at least 3 years of full-time clinical experience in NICU
- Current BLS and NRP certifications (American Heart Association)
- National certification in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing (or actively working toward with completion date)
- Proven leadership ability in clinical or management roles
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and NICU-specific best practices
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration
- NRP Instructor certification
- Critical Care Transport experience
