Job Description

Overview

  • Lead and manage nursing operations within the surgical department, ensuring high-quality patient care and adherence to healthcare standards.
  • Supervise and mentor a multidisciplinary team, fostering collaboration and professional growth among staff members.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to optimize operational efficiency and patient safety.
  • Participate in strategic planning and budgeting to align departmental goals with organizational objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and accreditation requirements within the surgical unit.
  • Promote a culture of excellence and continuous improvement in patient care and staff performance.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate and enhance surgical services delivery.
  • Provide leadership in infection prevention and control measures within the surgical environment.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Supervise nursing staff, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and professional standards.
  • Coordinate staffing schedules to maintain optimal coverage and efficient workflow in the surgical unit.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient care plans to ensure effectiveness and compliance with hospital policies.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve desired patient outcomes and enhance care quality.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs to support staff professional development and competency.
  • Oversee infection surveillance and implement measures to prevent healthcare-associated infections.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to nursing personnel.
  • Ensure proper documentation and compliance with regulatory requirements in patient care activities.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical and supervisory nursing experience; 5 years preferred.
  • Current RN license in good standing within the state of Michigan.
  • BLS certification required; additional certifications in surgical nursing preferred.
  • Proficiency in computer systems for patient care and departmental record-keeping.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and improve care delivery processes.
  • Ability to manage physical demands, including standing, walking, and assisting with patient mobility.
  • Excellent communication and team collaboration skills to foster a positive work environment.
