Job Description

Overview

  • Lead infection control initiatives, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations in a healthcare setting.
  • Develop and maintain infection control policies, collaborating with departments for unit-specific procedures.
  • Analyze data to identify healthcare-associated infections and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Coordinate and lead the Infection Control Committee, fostering a culture of safety and prevention.
  • Provide facility-wide education on infection control practices and act as a resource for staff.
  • Support occupational health policies related to infection prevention and exposure incidents.
  • Collaborate with environmental services to mitigate cross-contamination risks effectively.
  • Conduct staff training and competency evaluations, emphasizing person-centered care principles.
  • Maintain Infection Control Certification through continuing education opportunities.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Plan, organize, and implement infection control programs aligned with regulatory standards.
  • Develop and update the infection control policy manual, ensuring relevance and compliance.
  • Collect and analyze infection data to identify trends and recommend interventions.
  • Lead the Infection Control Committee, facilitating communication and decision-making.
  • Provide educational sessions on infection prevention for staff across all departments.
  • Collaborate with occupational health teams to manage exposure incidents and immunization programs.
  • Support environmental services in implementing effective infection prevention measures.
  • Advise staff on isolation and transmission-based precautions to ensure patient safety.
  • Conduct targeted studies to address specific infection control concerns as directed.

Job Requirements

  • Active NY RN license and certification in Infection Control and Epidemiology.
  • Completion of the CDC Nursing Home Infection Preventionist Training Course preferred.
  • Associate of Applied Science degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in infection control within long-term care settings.
  • Proficiency in analyzing infection data and implementing corrective measures.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, CDC, and NYSDOH regulations for infection control.
  • BLS certification required; advanced certifications are a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills for educating staff and collaborating with committees.
  • Flexibility to work occasional nights or weekends as needed.
