Job Description

Overview

  • Lead laboratory operations to ensure efficient workflows and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Oversee administrative, fiscal, and technical aspects of the clinical laboratory.
  • Collaborate with hospital departments to support high-quality patient care.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures, and job descriptions for laboratory functions.
  • Manage budgets and resources to achieve departmental goals effectively.
  • Ensure readiness for inspections and compliance with CAP, CLIA, and JCAHO standards.
  • Engage in quality assurance initiatives to maintain high standards of patient care.
  • Utilize laboratory information systems to streamline processes and improve efficiency.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Plan, organize, and evaluate clinical laboratory operations and workflows.
  • Hire, train, and develop laboratory personnel, ensuring ongoing competency assessments.
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and prepare for inspections.
  • Collaborate with hospital departments to address patient care delivery issues.
  • Manage departmental budgets and demonstrate fiscal accountability.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately while maintaining accountability for outcomes.
  • Engage in quality assurance and safety initiatives within the laboratory.
  • Utilize software applications to enhance laboratory operations and efficiency.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting required.
  • 2-4 years of supervisory or management experience preferred.
  • Medical Technologist Certification or MLS certification required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of clinical laboratory operations and regulatory standards.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, resource allocation, and fiscal management.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills to motivate and develop staff.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems and hospital-wide software applications.
