Job Description

Overview

  • Support attorneys in all phases of bankruptcy matters, including case preparation, document management, and team communication.
  • Prepare and file legal documents under Chapters 7, 11, and 13 using CM/ECF systems.
  • Ensure compliance with bankruptcy court procedures and local rules while managing multiple cases.
  • Serve as the primary contact for document collection, filing status, and court dates.
  • Maintain organized electronic case files and track deadlines, hearings, and meetings.
  • Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, depositions, and drafting routine notices.
  • Conduct legal research on bankruptcy codes, court rules, and procedural updates.
  • Collaborate with court clerks and chambers to ensure smooth case handling.
  • Work in a hybrid setting with flexible scheduling options.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare and electronically file bankruptcy motions, stipulations, and related documents.
  • Monitor docket activity and update attorneys on case developments.
  • Maintain organized case files and ensure adherence to court deadlines.
  • Assist attorneys with hearing and deposition preparations.
  • Draft routine notices and correspondence for attorney review.
  • Conduct legal research on bankruptcy-related topics and procedural updates.
  • Communicate with court clerks and chambers to facilitate case proceedings.
  • Support the bankruptcy group with document collection and filing status updates.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Bankruptcy Code and Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Paralegal Certificate required; Associate’s degree acceptable.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of experience as a bankruptcy paralegal in a law firm environment.
  • Thorough understanding of U.S. Bankruptcy Code and Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure.
  • Proficiency with LexisNexis, Westlaw, and CM/ECF electronic filing systems.
  • Strong organizational and time-management abilities to handle multiple cases effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Knowledge of bluebooking and legal document formatting preferred.
  • Flexibility to work in a hybrid setting with on-site requirements.
