Job Description

Overview

  • Lead laboratory operations across a healthcare system, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and quality assurance.
  • Drive system integration of laboratory policies, procedures, and supply chain management.
  • Provide operational guidance to local site management for laboratory services.
  • Promote standardization and efficiency within laboratory operations across the healthcare system.
  • Ensure laboratories meet or exceed established financial, quality, and service KPIs.
  • Collaborate with corporate laboratory leadership for policy and procedural alignment.
  • Support the department by performing routine laboratory testing as needed.
  • Encourage professional development and continuous growth among laboratory personnel.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Plan, organize, and direct laboratory department activities to achieve operational excellence.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures for laboratory operations.
  • Manage fiscal operations, including budgeting and cost-effective equipment procurement.
  • Monitor department performance and implement changes to improve services and compliance.
  • Oversee staff selection, training, and performance evaluations, ensuring high competence levels.
  • Coordinate laboratory functions with other hospital departments and promote public relations.
  • Encourage staff participation in professional development and inter-laboratory collaboration.
  • Resolve conflicts and maintain effective working relations within the department.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a scientific field, meeting CLIA requirements.
  • Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist certification; ASCP preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory clinical laboratory experience required.
  • General accounting, statistics, and financial operating experience desired.
  • Quality control and quality tools management knowledge preferred.
  • LEAN Six Sigma certification and Master’s degree preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to manage system-wide laboratory operations.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory standards.
