Job Description

Overview

  • Manage operations of histology, cytology, and MOHS laboratories ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate activities of laboratory staff, including supervisors and technologists, to maintain high-quality testing services.
  • Develop and implement departmental goals, objectives, and budgets in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Ensure employee competency, education, and compliance with hospital policies and procedures.
  • Promote positive customer service and employee relations while fostering teamwork within the department.
  • Maintain knowledge of laboratory operations and regulatory standards to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee quality control programs and prepare monthly reports for section meetings.
  • Support staff training, orientation, and ongoing competency development.
  • Collaborate with vendors to resolve issues and improve laboratory software utilization.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Supervise laboratory staff, including scientists, technologists, and assistants, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Prepare payroll and time sheets for laboratory sections as required.
  • Monitor assay turnaround times and implement improvements as needed.
  • Document test implementation and staff training activities.
  • Participate in committees, task forces, and projects to support hospital initiatives.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets for operations and capital equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with accrediting agencies' regulatory standards for laboratory operations.
  • Hire, evaluate, and counsel employees in accordance with hospital policies.
  • Maintain effective communication within the laboratory and with external stakeholders.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Clinical Technology or related science required.
  • Minimum of six years of relevant hospital experience.
  • Current New York State license as Clinical Laboratory Technologist, Cytotechnologist, Histotechnologist, or Pathologists’ Assistant required.
  • Preferred certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory operations and regulatory compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead a multidisciplinary team effectively.
  • Experience in developing and managing budgets and departmental goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and collaboration.
