Overview

  • The Estimator role focuses on delivering precise cost evaluations for construction projects, ensuring competitive pricing and supporting preconstruction phases effectively.
  • Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to develop budgets, timelines, and value engineering solutions for diverse construction initiatives.
  • Analyze project documentation, including drawings and specifications, to create comprehensive cost estimates tailored to client needs.
  • Maintain and utilize a database of pricing, subcontractors, and historical costs to inform accurate decision-making.
  • Employ advanced estimating software for efficient quantity take-offs, material pricing, and labor evaluations.
  • Participate in bid reviews and presentations, showcasing expertise in pricing strategies and project feasibility assessments.
  • Engage in on-site activities to ensure project alignment with requirements and deadlines, contributing to successful execution.
  • Drive innovation in estimating practices, enhancing project outcomes and client satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and project timelines by analyzing documentation and specifications.
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor bids to ensure competitive pricing and quality standards.
  • Develop quantity take-offs, material pricing, labor estimates, and schedules for construction projects.
  • Assist in crafting bid proposals, budgets, and value engineering options to optimize project outcomes.
  • Collaborate with project teams during preconstruction phases to refine pricing strategies and planning.
  • Participate in bid reviews and presentations, providing insights into cost strategies and feasibility.
  • Maintain an updated database of pricing, subcontractors, and cost histories for reference and analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and practices in estimating and project planning.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a relevant field is required.
  • 5–10 years of experience in estimating within the commercial construction industry.
  • Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, ProEst, Sage, or On-Screen Takeoff.
  • Strong knowledge of construction means, methods, and industry practices.
  • Experience estimating projects in sectors like commercial, federal/government, healthcare, or higher education is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
