Job Description

Overview

  • Provide specialized nursing care in the cardiovascular surgery department, focusing on open-heart procedures and patient recovery.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and adherence to care standards.
  • Participate in case-finding, health teaching, and counseling to support patient well-being.
  • Utilize advanced clinical skills to diagnose and treat responses to health problems.
  • Work full-time 12.5-hour flexible shifts to meet department needs.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and mandatory in-service education.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital policies and New York State regulations.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to cardiovascular surgery patients during preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases.
  • Monitor patient conditions, administer medications, and manage medical equipment effectively.
  • Coordinate with surgeons and anesthesiologists to ensure seamless procedural operations.
  • Document patient care activities and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Educate patients and families about recovery processes and health management.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to evidence-based practices.
  • Maintain proficiency in cardiac nursing techniques and technologies.
  • Support the department in achieving operational and patient care goals.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution required.
  • Current New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license mandatory.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 year of RN experience in open-heart procedures; 5 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in English communication and computer skills essential.
  • Strong clinical expertise in cardiac nursing and patient care management.
  • Ability to work 12.5-hour shifts in a fast-paced hospital environment.
