Job Description

Overview

  • Support dental care delivery by preparing treatment rooms, patients, instruments, and materials for procedures.
  • Perform chairside assistance during dental procedures, ensuring patient comfort and efficient workflow.
  • Maintain treatment records and ensure compliance with health center protocols and safety standards.
  • Sterilize, prepare, and manage inventory control of dental instruments and supplies.
  • Collaborate with the dental team to provide excellent patient care and service.
  • Engage in continuous learning and quality improvement initiatives within the dental practice.
  • Communicate dental procedures and terminology effectively with patients and team members.
  • Work in compliance with the department’s Exposure Control Plan, including PPE and Universal Precautions.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare treatment rooms and position instruments and equipment for dental procedures.
  • Assist the dentist during examinations and treatments, ensuring smooth operations.
  • Monitor and ensure patient comfort throughout dental procedures.
  • Take and record medical and dental histories of patients accurately.
  • Perform sterilization and preparation of dental instruments and supplies.
  • Maintain operatory equipment and ensure cleanliness and readiness for use.
  • Assist in administrative tasks, including scheduling and patient communication.
  • Contribute to inventory management and ordering of dental supplies.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited New York dental assisting program by the ADA Commission preferred.
  • Basic CPR (BLS) Certification required.
  • Minimum of one year of clinical dental assisting experience preferred.
  • Experience in hospital or community health center settings preferred.
  • Proficiency in medical/dental software is advantageous.
  • Bilingual skills in Spanish, Hindi, Bangla, or Urdu preferred.
  • Strong reasoning and mathematical skills for accurate record-keeping.
