Job Description

Overview

  • The Estimator role involves preparing detailed cost estimates for construction projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaborate with project teams to analyze blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to determine project requirements.
  • Work with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and ensure project cost-effectiveness.
  • Provide cost analysis and risk assessments to support project decision-making and planning.
  • Participate in pre-construction meetings and contribute to project planning and scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures in all estimating activities.
  • Maintain and update estimating databases and tools to improve accuracy and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.
  • Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documents to determine scope and requirements.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing and availability information.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
  • Assist in project planning and scheduling by providing cost and resource estimates.
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations to mitigate potential project risks.
  • Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and budgets.
  • Maintain accurate records of estimates and project costs for future reference and analysis.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating; 6 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and tools, with strong analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for interacting with subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Ability to work on-site and collaborate effectively with project teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in estimates.
  • Experience with projects in higher education, municipalities, healthcare, and light industrial sectors is advantageous.
