Overview
- The Estimator role involves preparing detailed cost estimates for construction projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with project teams to analyze blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to determine project requirements.
- Work with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and ensure project cost-effectiveness.
- Provide cost analysis and risk assessments to support project decision-making and planning.
- Participate in pre-construction meetings and contribute to project planning and scheduling.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures in all estimating activities.
- Maintain and update estimating databases and tools to improve accuracy and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, and equipment.
- Analyze project specifications, drawings, and other documents to determine scope and requirements.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing and availability information.
- Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing.
- Assist in project planning and scheduling by providing cost and resource estimates.
- Conduct risk assessments and provide recommendations to mitigate potential project risks.
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on project goals and budgets.
- Maintain accurate records of estimates and project costs for future reference and analysis.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in construction estimating; 6 years preferred.
- Proficiency in estimating software and tools, with strong analytical skills.
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills for interacting with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ability to work on-site and collaborate effectively with project teams.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in estimates.
- Experience with projects in higher education, municipalities, healthcare, and light industrial sectors is advantageous.
